Our home studio makeover is in full swing. I have spend the past 3 days painting, painting and more painting. But I’m finally at the point where our space is a blank canvas. Since we so often only see the before and after I thought I’d take you along with some ‘during’ photos!
So the fireplace and surrounding walls are painted and I couldn’t be happier. Originally I had planned to have built in shelving on either side of the fireplace, but now that the focal point of the room looks so clean and minimal I’m considering something new. I think I’m going to add low shelving to hide unsightly electronics but I’m considering the upper area might be perfect for a decorative art quilt. Our next plan will be to add the fireplace mantel – I’m very excited but a little bit nervous.
The Seating Area
Taking down the heavy curtains has made the biggest difference in our space. Having such a love for textiles I’ve never really thought about NOT having curtains but the minute we took them down to paint – I knew there was no going back. We’re leaning towards inserting blinds inside of the wooden window trim so they can be discreetly hidden. The creamy white walls, along with the absence of dark drapes makes everything seem brighter and more cheerful. And I haven’t even added pretty fabrics yet!
I wasn’t sure how a creamy white wall color would look in contrast with the espresso cabinetry but I am please as can be. I feel like the contrast is really helping the tile work stand out in a way it didn’t before. I’m very excited to come up with fun storage options for notions and thread for the floating shelves.
The Front Entrance
This might be my favorite part of the transformation thus far. I just love how the green door is fresh and inviting. It was adorable on it’s own but when I painted the walls it really stood out! I’m still tossing around ideas for covering the electrical box – but at least I’m getting closer to a decision. I’m thinking about adding some words to the door – maybe Learn, Create & Inspire!
The only thing I can say about Millie is she blends in a little bit better with the wall color. Now, I know there is no way to hide this monstrosity but the mere fact that she blends into her surroundings is making me thing she’s more of a Chameleon than a Megalodon! Regardless, our next move is to work on storage and switch out the light fixtures for a less intrusive effect. Oh, and hide those cords!
So that’s what 3 dedicated days of work look like for me! The pictures don’t quite do the transformation justice but I think they give you a little sneak peak into our progress. Keep on the lookout because all the fun stuff is coming up next – storage, decorating and style! Thanks for continuing to follow our makeover, and I can’t wait until you can see it in person!
